Rob's Story

Shortly after I joined Boeing Vancouver three years ago, I was pleasantly surprised to discover two really important factors that have really enhanced my experience here.

First, Boeing Vancouver is more than just a local company here. It is part of the larger Boeing organization and as a result I have access to a world of resources. Through a phone call, instant messaging or video conference I can get guidance from a wide array of subject matter experts. The “One Boeing” theme means that I have support from all the Boeing subsidiaries and not just Boeing. As a result, I created the Technology Forum where all the IT leaders from the different Boeing subsidiaries meet every three months to discuss opportunities, challenges and collaboration. Boeing Vancouver offers such a unique blend of small start up excitement coupled with large multinational support that I feel I get the best of both worlds.

Secondly, Boeing Vancouver has allowed me to pursue my volunteer passion of Search & Rescue. Boeing Vancouver not only supports my volunteerism but also has a wide array of programs that employees can participate in. A large part of the excitement, willingness, and encouragement to get involved comes from our senior leadership team. For the last three years, the company has participated in Girls Fly Too, a weekend-long event promoting involvement and interest in the aviation industry to girls and women. Not only did our leadership team make it easy for us to sign up for a booth at this event, they provided items for us to give out to kids, approved funding for us to build and bring a flight simulator for attendees to use, and were present at the event itself, leading by example and making time to get involved and help out. It makes a difference when our leaders are there to support us and volunteer along with us.

Over the time I’ve been with the company, I’ve watched Boeing Vancouver’s culture of giving back to the community grow in leaps and bounds. The company is always on the lookout for ways we can participate as a group, and gives those of us who volunteer in our individual lives its full support.
